Reflective Narrative
3.1 Many of the concepts of Maya culture are very different to other cultures especially Japanese. This was fairly easy to understand after diving into the unique culture of an ancient civilization. Just the geographical location is a huge comparison Between the Maya and Japanese. I learned very different ritual and religious about the Maya by writing essays and asking questions. As I continued to learn more I always made it a part of me to compare those differences between Japanese and American culture. The time periods, the way they ate, the dynamics of a city, etc. are very important to figuring out the past culture of people that has been forgotten. I wondered if there were cultural aspects forgotten by the Japanese as well.
3.2 The Maya were considered to be barbaric but after learning of their culture in depth, barbaric is far from the truth. It is a matter of perspective and we can apply that perspective globally to find understanding for the past or present. I connected the Maya barbarianism to the Japans period of waring states in regards to both periods battling to control over another during a time of chaos. I was able to analyze through authentic written codices and modern written books, the lifestyles and rituals of how the Maya existed. Some of their contributions to civilization are still with us today, like the concept of "0" and the calendar. These are all examples of what a society can accomplish and Japan is just as exciting to learn about.
